The Kestrel 5000 Environmental Meter is the latest advancement in environmental data collection.

Wind speed, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and density altitude plus logging capabilities – the indispensable tool for portable environmental monitoring.

The Kestrel 5000 Environmental Meter is a remarkably powerful measuring and data logging tool, yet remarkably compact. The Kestrel 5000 provides the same trusted accuracy, reliability, and usability as the retired Kestrel 4000. Use it for research, safety, expeditions, agriculture and any other profession or activity where accurate on-the-spot conditions monitoring is key.

The Kestrel 5000 also tracks and logs over 10,000 sets of time-stamped data.
There are two versions of the 5000. The 5000 and the 5000 with LiNK. Both units can transfer data to a Windows or Mac computer with the optional waterproof Kestrel Data Transfer Cable and the appropriate Kestrel LiNK app (See Below).

The 5000 with LiNK Bluetooth Connectivity, gives you the option to transfer data wirelessly to an iOS (iPhone, iPad) device or Android smartphone or tablet when within range using the appropriate app (See Below). Also with the 5000 with LiNK Meter, you can transfer data wirelessly to a Windows or Mac computer using the optional Kestrel Bluetooth USB Dongle.

Improved font readability with it’s larger, higher-resolution / contrast display & built-in dual color backlight. The 5000 is drop-proof, dust-proof, waterproof and able to withstand harsh environments.

From U.S. Special Forces, combat weather teams, wildland firefighters, smoke jumpers, Mt. Everest expeditions and auto pit crews the 5000 gives them the crucial environmental data they need. Watch any on-screen meteorologist during a hurricane, and you’re sure to spot a Kestrel in action. Researchers have relied on Kestrel’s accuracy and portability for nearly 20 years, and you’ll find Kestrel referenced in many a peer-reviewed journal article. If environmental conditions are important in your profession or favorite activity, there is no better partner.

Accuracy (+/-): Larger of 3% of reading, least significant digit or 20 ft/min
Notes: 1 inch|25 mm diameter impeller with precision axle and low-friction Zytel® bearings. Startup speed stated as lower limit, readings may be taken down to 0.4 m/s | 79 ft/min | 1.5 km/h | .9 mph | .8 kt after impeller startup. Off-axis accuracy -1% @ 5º off-axis; -2% @ 10º; -3% @ 15º. Calibration drift < 1% after 100 hours use at 16 MPH | 7 m/s. Replacement impeller (PN-0801) field installs without tools (US Patent 5,783,753). Wind speed calibration and testing should be done with triangle on impeller located at the top front face of the Kestrel. *F/S only in Ballistics units. Beaufort not available in Ballistics units.

    Ambient Temperature:

    Units of Measure: Fahrenheit, Celsius
    Specification Range:
    • -20.0 to 158.0 °F
    • -29.0 to 70.0 °C

    Accuracy (+/-):
    • 0.9 °F
    • 0.5 °C
Notes: Airflow of 2.2 mph|1 m/s or greater provides fastest response and reduction of insolation effect. For greatest accuracy, avoid direct sunlight on the temperature sensor and prolonged sunlight exposure to the unit in low airflow conditions. Calibration drift is negligible for the life of the product. For further details, see Display & Battery Operational Temperature Limits.

    • 0.044 inHg
    • 0.022 PSI
Notes: Monolithic silicon piezo-resistive pressure sensor with second-order temperature correction. Between 1100–1600 mbar, unit will operate with reduced accuracy. Sensor may not operate above 1600 mbar and can be damaged above 6,000 mbar or below 10 mbar. Calibration drift is negligible for the life of the product.

When I first purchased my 5700 instrument along with case and vane kit, I had found Extreme Meters via Amazon. When I placed the order I had meant the 5700 Elite but had ordered the standard by mistake. After I received this meter. I called Mike at Extreme Meters and explained my error. He quickly and kindly helped me return the standard and allowed this towards the Elite with LiNK.
Here is a copy of the review that I left at Amazon. As I take my shooting out further and further, both at the range and in the field, the weather conditions make more of an influence on the shot to target. The Kestrel 5700 Elite with LiNK and ballistics is the state of the art solution. I added the case and tripod for a weather station that travels with me. I’ve found the instrument readings to be right on. As is the ballistics calculator, or you can even pair to the best of the most popular ones. Ballistics AE, StrelokPro, Hornady 4DOF I’ve verified. I would love to see Kestrel and ATN give us the ability to pair their instruments. Wow, a shooting system from the future. I currently use a single meter at the muzzle. But plan on adding a second for at the target for those longer shots at the range.

My expeditions take me to Central America and the Amazon River Basin Brazil. These areas are extremely hot/humid, especially the Amazon River which runs along the Equator. I find it important to track the weather as I generally hike 10 miles daily and need to be aware how my body reacts to make sure I can get back to base camp.
Kestrel weather stations were referred to me by a friend. ExtremeMeters came up on a google search. I studied their products then called for help. Customer service was very helpful. He listened to my needs and gave me two the 3500 or the 5000. I decided to go w the Kestrel 5000. I use it all the time out here in the Mojave Desert. The other day it was 98 degrees w 17% humidity. Talk about bone dry.
I was most delighted to receive my Kestrel promptly. That says a lot about the company. Add to the mix no tax since I live in a different State, and free shipping closed the deal. I love to do business w companies that do what they say they will do - those companies that look out for you. ExtremeMeters highly recommended. Paul - KingCobra

It's been great. I like how the meter can fill in the atmosphere on my ballistic phone app.
